Origin of Creation
This wonderful painting by Wlodek Kaminski reproduces the saddle from Turkmenistan at the end of the nineteenth century, which is kept in the private collection of Emile Hermès. This saddle used for celebration ceremonies has a high upturned saddle head, and is decorated with delicate riveted horn pieces, and the saddle is covered with embroidered cushions and guards. During the parade, the Syandana covering the hips of the horse will show a two-headed eagle: this is a symbol of the Russian Empire, surrounded by various animals and lush floral patterns. Two eagle heads wearing crowns symbolize Europe and Asia, as well as the vast territory of Russia across Eurasia. Before the opening of the Trans-Siberian Railway in 1904, the 9288 km long distance between Moscow and Vladivostok took more than six months to cross.
